THE Head Boy of St Eustachius' church choir in Tavistock has gained a top award from the Royal School of Church Music.

Simon Hawkins, 13, has won the St Nicholas award, the highest award for junior choristers.

Simon has been a chorister since he was seven. He has already won local medallion awards and the RSCM Devon area award. For the St Nicholas he had to be unreservedly recommended by his headmaster, choirmaster and parish priest, know a great deal about liturgical music, and prepare 15 anthems and settings to a high standard.

His award says it is 'in recognition of his exemplary conduct and outstanding work'.

Simon was presented with the award — a certificate and a medallion — at a service last weekend conducted by Preb John Rawlings.
