IN three days second formers at Kelly College put together an entertaining 'Titanic' spoof play resulting in a performance, which was thoroughly enjoyed by pupils, friends and family.

The play, was written and directed by head of drama Jeremy Balfour to mark the 100-year anniversary of the Titanic disaster. This ambitious stage project included building a ship's hull, funnel, oars and lifeboats and life jackets – though not enough for everyone!

There were some out-standing contributions from Kasper Brudnik in the design and prop-making department and Jack Cockcroft with the lighting.

Fourth form pupils helped with the choreography, particularly the fight sequence when Jack Dawson was taken prisoner.

The big team of helpers included parents Mrs Trewartha-Wyatt, Mrs Sorrell and Mrs Kharas who all volunteered to work alongside their daughters as part of the design team and Mr Wyatt, who shared his professional technical lighting expertise to assist the second form technicians. Mrs Brown also helped with the choreography, particularly for the below decks party and all were supported by a music ensemble of first, second and three formers, who provided music and sound effects throughout.

Head of drama Jeremy Balfour said: 'This has been an excellent team effort employing the skills of not only pupils from other year groups, but also parents and professionals from outside the school.'

The next senior school production will be the musical Grease next December.'
