A PROJECT to protect and enhance Tavistock's Kingdon House for future generations is about to move a step forward.

Generous support from Devon County Council, along with West Devon Borough Council, the local Co-operative society and the Bernard Sunley Foundation have enabled Kingdon House Community Association to continue on to the next stage of its programme to save the ageing building as a community facility for Tavistock.

Last year outline plans were unveiled as to how it might be possible to solve the structural problems and significantly improve the facilities in the building to make sure that KHCA will be still providing a home for community groups for many years to come.

Chair of the Association, Norman Hurn, said: 'The funding we have received has allowed us to commission local architect, Stephen Whettem, to produce the detailed plans we need to raise the further money we will need to actually carry out the redevelopment.

'It is a long term project but the exciting part starts here.

'Stephen would like to talk to representatives of community groups so that the plans he develops will, as far as possible, make sure the building can meet their future needs.

'We do not want to carry out extensive changes only to hear someone say "If only you could have included . . .".'

Stephen will be available in Kingdon House on Wednesday, December 5 at 6pm to 7.30pm and again on Wednesday, December 12 at the same time.

Members of community groups that use Kingdom House are urged to come along on either day to talk to Stephen and put forward any ideas or views they may have.

KHCA also will hold its annual meeting on Monday, November 26 at 6.30pm in the Studio — all welcome.
