THE third round of the South West Winter foursomes competition was held at Yelverton Golf Club. Reigning champions Adam Bridgewater (Yelverton) and Joe Yorke (Saunton) beat fellow Yelverton members David Wright and Nick Davis 5 and 3. The semi-finalists from 2005/06, Des Carty and Ian Verner, from China Fleet Club, had an impressive win over St Enodoc professional Greg Dance and Andy Kerr (St Mellion) 7 and 6. Teign Valley professional Scott Amiett, partnering C Edemundson, was knocked out by Nick Weight and Micah Carroll from Launceston. Micah is the only surviving female player, as Kayleigh Cann, with Richard Woods (Bigbury), lost a close match against the Yelverton pair of Mark Blaber and Colin Nolan, losing at the 19th hole. Nicky Gawman (Tavistock), with husband George, also lost, to Malcolm Hill and Kevin Cornwall from Okehampton. In the battle of the professionals, Yelverton?s Tim McSherry defeated China Fleet professional Damien McEvoy and partner Ryan Jewell on the 19th green. McSherry hit the green on the par three hole, and his partner, Gary Hawking, sank the putt to leave McSherry as the sole professional in the top half of the draw. In the bottom half of the draw, Ashley Moon( Okehampton), had the largest margin of victory, playing with brother Martin; the previous winners of the tournament beat an off-form Dougie Anderson (Yelverton) and Pete Cooper (Bigbury) 8 and7. The fourth round is on Sunday.
