Tavistock Tigers 2 Bombardiers 1 AFTER the disappointment of the previous week?s hockey result, losing to Bombardiers 3-2 in the dying minutes of the game, the Tigers had an opportunity to make amends this week. This opportunity was gratefully received in the first few minutes, from a free hit. Edwards gave a pacey delivery to a well positioned Andrews, who was stalking in the D, to deflect in for a clinical start to the game. However, Tavistock were not to have the game all their way. A young Bombardier mid field showed pace and skill to avoid the usually solid defence of Bob Cowan, Zoë Viggers and Kate Eadie with a goal bound ?roof of the net? shot form the edge of the D, but for the presence and ? save of the day? of keeper Martin Osborne this would have levelled the scores. Coming out into the second half only one up Tavistock felt it should have been more. With skipper, Phil Honey, now in familiar territory confidence was on Tavistock?s side. Once more pressure was brought to bear on the Bombardiers. Through a poor clearance of defence, Edwards took the opportunity, running on to the ball leaving defender and keeper in no man?s land and cleanly finishing for a goal from the edge of the D. At 2 up Tavistock began to relax a little, failing to clear strongly from the backs gave a penalty corner away, providing the opposition with their goal by a well struck shot into the corner of the goal. With a few minutes to go Bombardiers did not look likely to take any points from this game and this proved to be the case with Tavistock deservedly coming out on top.
