WHILE last Saturday, July 4, was a big day for many people in England with coronavirus restrictions being eased, it was especially so for Tidy Tavi as it was its 100th expedition and the first since Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were imposed back in March.
Some 20 regular volunteers turned out to help together with a couple of new faces. Proper social distancing and sanitisation procedures were observed throughout.
‘Tavistock town centre was found to be fairly litter-free, probably because fewer people had been out and about for the last three months but the litter-picking efforts of the local authorities have continued, at least in recent weeks,’ said Tidy Tavi organiser and volunteer Steve Hipsey.
‘More rubbish was found in other areas however, especially those along the A386 and Callington Road.
‘We would like to thank all the volunteers who turned out to help in the rain.’
Steve Hipsey and Vikki Bendle are delighted to have been accepted recently by Keep Britain Tidy as ‘Litter Hero Ambassadors’. This will hopefully mean that Tidy Tavi will enjoy the full support of KBT in terms of advice, the provision of insurance and other matters.
Tidy Tavi’s next expedition will be on August 1. ‘Hopefully it will be sunny and social distancing regulations more relaxed!,’ added Steve.
Those wishing to take part should meet outside Meadowlands Leisure Centre at 10am.
All equipment will be provided, including gloves, masks and hand sanitiser as necessary.
