WEEKS of friendly competition between four Okehampton pubs culminated in a fun day for all the family last weekend.

The King's Arms, the Plymouth Inn, the White Hart, and the London Inn have all been taking part in the St George's Challenge over the last few weeks. Teams from each pub have been competing in skittles, pool, darts, cribbage and a quiz.

The challenge culminated in a tug of war competition at a family fun day in Simmons Park last Sunday.

The overall winner of the challenge was the London Inn.

The day ensured everyone had their share of fun too, with an inflatable assault course, sumo suits and jousting, as well as rides, a beer tent and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

More than 400 people turned out to enjoy the activities.

The event was organised by Lisa Wadling, the town's new promotion manager.

She said: 'It was a brilliant day, and a day of challenges for everyone with the inflatables and the tug of war. It had a really nice family feel.

'It also helped the night-time trade for the pubs involved, and I had several people tell me it was great for community spirit. It was something really nice to come out for.'
