THE success of this month's jubilee beacon bonfire in Mary Tavy is already sparking new ideas for the new community group which organised the event.
Almost 250 people attended the bonfire, barbecue and fireworks, staged by Mary Tavy Jubilee Group.
Everyone at the event had arrived by walking along Jubilee Walk, the new footpath created by the community. The final construction work on the footpath, lights for the dark areas, was completed just before the event.
The Mary Tavy Jubilee Group is being set up as a charity and will go on to undertake other projects within the parish. Everyone in the parish had received a personal invitation to the event by way of the first newsletter of the group, delivered by hand to every home. Many suggestions for new projects have been made, some are already being planned, and others will be asked for at a public meeting within the next few weeks.
A spokesperson for the group said: 'Many people commented that the beacon bonfire brought together fellow villagers who hadn't seen each other in years, and that they were delighted with the community spirit it engendered.
'One suggestion made by a great many people following the success of the jubilee celebrations is for a bonfire event around November 5.'
