WINKLEIGH Fair was once again a smashing success, with a host of organised events proving very popular despite the bad weather.
On Thursday, the field events began to take place, with a well attended produce and culture show as well as a hugely popular dog show being held that evening.
Friday saw an impressive Winkleigh talent show in the marquee, including singers, comedians and even bouncing men in lycra. Singer Elizabeth Turner won the competition with her beautiful rendition of 'Music in the Night' from Phantom of the Opera.
Wet weather did not deter visitors from attending the farmers' and craft market in full force. The event gave visitors the chance to shop for homemade products and better still warm up with a cooked bacon butty. A fancy dress competition themed around the 'Wild Wild West' was held on the day, with the trophy for best costume going to the Garland Girls. There were also chances for visitors to engage in friendly sport competitons, with the return of the ever-popular village races and the fierce tug-of-war contest, plus Gobi opened an evening of great music to bring the fair to an excellent close.
The Winkleigh Fair committee expresses thanks to Jamie Stuart, The Exeter Brewery, BBD Marquees and Anderton and Rowland Funfair for their support, and especially Nick and Sarah Turner and their family for their help and support and their allowing the use of their field for many of the popular events.
