THREE members of North Devon Wheelers (NDW) took part in the third and final Springtime Pursuit on Saturday.
The race was split into five groups, based on riders? ability, with the slowest starting first and the fastest last, the intention being that all the groups join together on the last lap to contest the finish.
A cold and windy afternoon greeted the 50-plus riders and all were expecting a tough race ? they were soon proved right.
The last group to start, which included NDW? Steve Sage, were quickly into their stride and were soon beginning to catch the groups that started in front of them. The whole race came together with around half of the 40 miles completed.
It was soon after this point that Steve got into a break from the main field which included the eventual race winner Mark Perry and second-placed Greg Sandy. But after three miles at the front of the race the field came back together and when these two attacked again none of the NDW were able to go with them.
With the finish line further up the climb than last week Adrian Street made a big effort to gain 16th place.
It proved tougher for Sage, who could only manage 25th, and junior Hal Fade finished a little further down the field.
The next event for the NDW will be the Stags Head Road Race organised by them at South Molton on Sunday March 14.
