THE 29th Dartmoor Radio Club Rally at Tavistock College attracted almost 300 visitors. Many were there for bargains on the numerous stands and to renew friendships with amateur radio friends who normally only meet on the air.
Rob Mannion and his team from the magazine Practical Wireless were there again — Rob, a Tavistock boy, is an experienced and enthusiastic supporter of the radio amateur fraternity. Traders, including Henry Westlake, did brisk business and there were representatives from various clubs and societies in the area, including Worked All Britain group and the Radio Amateurs Old Timers' Association.
Radio Society GB, the umbrella organisation which looks after the interests of amateur radio worldwide. was also present, as were Plymouth, Saltash and West Devon clubs. Caradon Hill, Mid Cornwall, West Devon and Plymouth Repeater groups all sent representatives who displayed their activities to keep repeaters and beacons running.
The club was grateful for the attendance of the St John Ambulance Brigade.
Help with setting up and clearing up after the rally was given again by 2312 ATC Squadron.
The club will be helping with communications for the Dartmoor Ultra Marathon in June, the Abbots Way Walk in October and Tavistock Athletic Club runs in October.
