Exmouth Amateurs 2
Hatherleigh 0
WITH both teams fighting for points in a bid to escape from the relegation battle it was a bitter pill to swallow for Hatherleigh — they had enough clear-cut chances to have won comfortably, and their only solace can come in the way they played.
In a fairly even first half the home side played with the slope and the breeze, and although they had the lion's share of the possession they never created too much.
It was Hatherleigh who should have gone in at the break leading, after being guilty of missing three or four good chances.
The second half saw the visitors start to dominate only to be stunned when what seemed to be a relatively simple clearance was kicked straight to the home centre forward who duly put the ball in the corner of the net.
Hatherleigh pressed forward in a bid to get an equaliser, but it was going to be one of those days.
The ball was scrambled off the line on several occasions, and with the home keeper making a string of fine saves all their efforts were in vain.
Exmouth, relying on the counter-attack, were always a threat and they put the final nail in the coffin when they scored their second with what proved to be the last kick of the game.
This week Hatherleigh are away to Witheridge.
