A RANGE of special navigation courses has just gone on offer to those who love walking in the countryside and on Dartmoor, whether they are already experienced with a map and compass or a complete novice.
The courses have been put together by the Dartmoor Centres, county council-run organisations based at Dartmeet and Two Bridges.
The three courses will follow the syllabus of the National Navigation Award Scheme. Those undertaking the courses successfully will not only be able to follow a map with complete confident, but will also receive a badge and certificate too.
The training days will be led by professional, well-qualified instructors and have been planned to cater for a wide range of abilities.
John Baker, Dartmoor Centre manager, said: 'We provide skills courses for group leaders and professionals such as rangers, who work in the countryside.
'However, we also get asked to help enthusiastic walkers and those seeking a safe day out on the moors.
'These courses will provide opportunities for the geographically-challenged, as well as the confident expert.'
The courses, held in the heart of Dartmoor, will range from a day-long introduction to a two-day master class.
