Okehampton Argyle 3rds 4

Bampton 3

OKEHAMPTON made the most of their chances in a much improved performance against Bampton. The omens were good when captain Adam Griffiths chose to play with the wind and rain behind them, taking the view that conditions would improve later.

Argyle started with the formation that proved effective during the first 20 minutes of last week's match. Shane Monnox made a welcome return to left back. The game started well with Okehampton keeping the ball on the ground and putting

together some good passing moves.

Their first goal came after nine minutes when Steve Kinsey chipped the keeper. Bampton responded and by half-time had drawn level.

The second half started with the same positive attitude from Argyle. Five minutes after play restarted Evans dribbled past Bampton's keeper, placing the ball into an empty net, and giving Argyle the lead again.

From this point Argyle dominated. Jon Carter took command of the home team's area. The Okehampton team spirits were high and again cultured moves from midfield released the attackers. Evans scored two more, making it a hat-trick and putting Argyle ahead by three goals with five minutes to play.

Bampton redoubled their efforts and forced two goals from corners. The last five minutes were tense, but Argyle held on to take the much deserved victory.

Man of the match: Phil Evans.
