Moretonhampstead 35 Tavistock thirds 7 Tavistock thirds were determined to field a side for this game despite most players having played the previous day. Two home players were borrowed - Simon Wallace played right wing after a long lay off from rugby and defended well. The main feature of the Tavistock performance was their aggressive rucking, led by hooker Chris Johns.  Two father and son combinations took the field, Mike and Rory Gilmore and Mel and Jason Ward, all of whom acquitted themselves well. The home side, playing downhill, ran in three tries before half time despite the Tavistock forwards driving play to the opposition 22 area several times. The threes made good use of the little ball they received which allowed Aaron Churchill to cross for Tavy's only try in the second half, converted by Andy Smerdon. Tom Friend played the first half in the unfamiliar position of scrum half and acquitted himself well before ending the game in the back row to bolster the defence. With five props playing out of position the visitors tired in the second half but still fought to the end of an enjoyable game with skipper Neil Cole dominant in the back row, turning over the opposition ball and setting up attacks throughout the game. The home side added two tries to their total in the second half.
