WHAT a mad country we live in! How anyone in their right mind could sanction the closure of a village post office is beyond me.
Of all shops in a village the post office is the most vital — for pensions, money transactions, licences, postal services, etc, etc.
What, I ask, are our elected representatives doing about it? I have seen no sign of public protest meetings, organised demonstrations in the streets or officials being called to account before the people.
In countries not so apathetic as ours, their lords and masters would soon be called to account, if anyone dared to lay a finger on such a useful service as is provided by a village post office. A national strike would not be out of the question.
Perhaps every one of our elected representatives — local, West Devon, county and parliamentary, would like to state in your paper what action they have taken in the way of protest at the closure of Milton Abbot Post Office.
We the voters would then know how to act when election time comes round again.
