A THEATRE company with a difference has been celebrating recently after securing funding to enable it to continue its work until the end of the year. The Get Changed Theatre Company, threatened with closure last December, has found financial backing from three sources, enabling it to provide drama opportunities for people with learning disabilities in West Devon until the end of 2008. The theatre company, based in Okehampton, was founded in 1995 and draws members from across Mid and West Devon. All members have learning disabilities and Get Changed was created to give them the opportunity to socialise, learn new skills and perform. Funding from the Learning Disability Development Fund, Okehampton United Charities and the Awards For All Lottery have meant that the group can look ahead and begin working on its planned new project . The project will be focussed on healthy eating and the group is planning to take performances to adults with learning disabilities who are in supported independent living or are planning to live independently in the future. Further support for this project has been offered from Waitrose supermarket. Get Changed, now working in collaboration with Devon arts organisation Wolf and Water, recently completed a production entitled 'The Strange and Extraordinary Tale of the Circus of Dreams'. This performance was extremely successful and well attended with full audiences on both performance dates. Get Changed are looking for new volunteers to help both with the Wednesday rehearsal day and with the management committee that steers the organisational side of the theatre company.
