PUPILS at Lifton Community Primary have just been treated to a whole week of exciting science.
There were some wonderful investigations, including soil samples, bones, 'down in the jungle' drinkable water, pulleys and pushes, and even exploding volcanoes. Working in groups they also had a chance to design a land buggy, a noiseless bridge, and a chair for baby bear.
On three days there were special visitors. Tuesday saw members of Launceston College Science Club setting up and running a fascinating array of activities for the children and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all concerned. On Wednesday Laura Daniels, a student ambassador from Exeter University, worked with groups of children all day, setting them 60-second science challenges and running workshops on bubbles, building structures (from marshmallows and spaghetti), and designing a track for marbles.
On Thursday it really was rocket science when Clive Purchase from the Callington Space Centre gave a series of short talks about astronomy and space, interspersed with practical experiments giving every child the chance to make and launch their own rocket.
A spokesperson for the school said: 'It was a week they'll all remember for a very long time and it culminated in a video presentation to parents showing them the diversity and fun of the week's brilliant activities.'
