CALLINGTON'S turn to host a 'My History, Our Heritage' event as part of South East Cornwall Museum Forum's series of roadshows was a great success with scores of residents visiting from all over the area. One of nine events held by the forum to encourage enjoyment, involvement and interest in family and local history, Callington Town Hall hosted displays by the Callington Heritage Centre, Calstock and Stoke Climsland Archive. People were invited to bring in photos, documents, film and memorabilia, to find their ancestors on the Cornwall Family History Society's database of more than four million names, to talk to local volunteers and historians and find ways of studying local history. Representatives from the Cornwall Record Office and Institute of Cornish Studies were at the event, which was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and many other organisations. Outreach project co-ordinator for the South East Cornwall Museum Forum Natalie Watson said the events had been very well attended with over 300 visitors so far. 'People have been able to find out things they did not know before and the museums and archives in local areas have had a lot more volunteers coming forward to help. It has given a whole boost to the heritage sector.'
