THE Prince Hall Hotel near Two Bridges is celebrating the sweet taste of success, having been awarded gold in the Taste of the West Awards 2014, hot on the heels of last year's silver. A regular recipient of rave reviews from guests, the hotel's restaurant is served by a team of just three in the kitchen, headed by owner, Chris Daly, and chef, Richard Greenway, who took the helm two years ago. Having started out washing dishes in a café while travelling in Australia, Richard's love of cooking has brought him a long way and he now says of his role at the Prince Hall Hotel that 'it doesn't feel like a job'. Ingredients used at Prince Hall are either home grown, home reared or scrupulously sourced. From Brixham supplied fish to Dartmoor meats, Princetown ales and Sharpham wines, the offering reflects the team's love of West Country fare. Owner Chris Daly said: 'First-time visitors are often somewhat surprised to come to the middle of Dartmoor and discover top-notch food. 'We're surrounded by such amazing produce and we try to create a menu that reflects this. We work incredibly hard to ensure that everything that comes out of the kitchen, from the cooked breakfast to the cream teas and pre-dinner canapés are of the same high level, and it's a huge accolade to receive this recognition for our efforts.' Taste of the West is the largest independent regional food group in the UK. The annual Taste of the West Awards promotes the very best in the South West food and drink industry.
