ON behalf of Stannary Brass Band and musical director Peter Jones, may I please thank all those who supported us at our recent concert held in Princetown Community Hall?

It was particularly rewarding for the young people (and mature learners) in the training band to have the opportunity to perform in front of such an appreciative audience. Conducted by Jennie Fisher, they played a range of popular tunes that they had been rehearsing for the occasion. The senior band also played and both bands played together for the finale. We hope to encourage our junior players to continue to enjoy brass music and join the main band in the future.

Thank you to all the helpers who served cake and drinks and donated raffle prizes.

As recently publicised, the band is trying to win a £6,000 award but needs votes from the public to do so. We are asking everyone who reads this to please visit http://www.natwest.com/communityforce">www.natwest.com/communityforce, register your e-mail address, then vote for Stannary Brass Band. Alternatively you may telephone 0800 2100 246. Please encourage all your friends to vote for us too. The closing date for voting is October 24.

A BIG thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to our recent harvest supper and auction. We raised over £1,700 on the night, which will go towards our fundraising for a stage, curtains and stage lighting and sound equipment.

THE local support group for Action for Children held a street collection in Tavistock on Friday September 30. We raised £308.
