CONSIDERING that only eight per cent of the West Devon electorate voted for change, the recent referendum was a total waste of money. Council Tax payer pays.

How to avoid such waste in future? May I suggest that the 2,000 calling for a change be invited to put up something towards the cost? £10 each would raise £20,000 which would cover the postage and the cost of the vote-counting; returnable if those voting for change won, of course, for the will of the people would then be a fair charge upon the rates.

Perhaps our elected councillors would consider this at their next open meeting? Or do we have to have yet another referendum? Well, I would put up my £10 for this one.
