HATHERLEIGH has spoken, will Mr Brown listen? A total of 190 residents of Hatherleigh turned out to vote in a parish poll held on Friday November 16. They took part in a ballot on whether they want a referendum on the European Union Constitutional Treaty. Currently the Prime Minister has no plans to hold a referendum. Of the 190 votes cast, 177 were for a referendum, with 13 against. The turnout was 17.25%. The poll followed a public meeting in Hatherleigh last month where 15 electors asked for it to be carried out. Only people living in the town were eligible to vote in the parish poll.
