A COMMUNITY group in Princetown is reviving the village pantomime after a break of 15 years or more.

And judging by the ticket sales, the public just cannot wait to see what the Community Fun Committee has to offer on February 20 and 21 at Princetown Primary School.

All the cast, writers and producers are completely new to performing but are all determined in their effort to make an entertaining evening for Princetown residents with their panto ?Dungerella?.

?We took advice on putting on a panto and realised you could not just pick up a script for a panto like Aladdin or Cinderella and perform it ? you have to pay for it,? said Kevan Elliot, who plays one of the Ugly Sisters.

So group member Sue Gaze put pen to paper and wrote an alternative Cinderella.

?When gas comes to Princetown there is no need to call her Cinders ? she works on a farm and we call her ?Dungerella,? added Kevan. ?It?s all about the Duchy and will provide lots of laughs, we hope.?

The community fun committee wants the panto to become an annual event and the cast of 12 will grow to include many more members of the community.

?We have looked at other villages and seen the big effort they put into their pantomime each year and it is something we really wanted to bring back,? added Kevan. ?The 160 tickets are just about sold out so we are really pleased.

?Princetown needs regenerating and getting the panto off the ground is part of this.?

Princetown Carnival has also had a new lease of life since water was introduced into it: ?The WI started it a couple of years ago with their water-themed float and now it has become known as Princetown Water Carnival,? said Kevan. ?People come up here to get soaked and it is great fun.?
