AN OKEHAMPTON man has bravely agreed to take the plunge and abseil down the 120ft Exeter College Tower to raise money for the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

Mike Howard, manager of JAG in Okehampton, will take part in the event called ?Leap in the Dark?, which takes place over two nights next month.

He will abseil down the tower on Saturday night, November 13. Another group of plucky volunteers will also be taking the challenge the following night, Sunday.

Mike has previously helped many good causes, including Devon Air Ambulance and Cystic Fibrosis.

RNIB says the money raised will go to support services for people with serious sight problems helping them to live more independent lives.

If you would like to sponsor Mike?s nocturnal abseil, call into the shop in West Street to sign up on a donation form.

l A large team of marvellous medics from Okehampton have boosted the numbers for the RNIB?s abseil challenge in Exeter.

A team from Okehampton Medical Centre has joined more than 300 other volunteers, including a team from the Mount Pleasant Health Centre, taking part in the day and night abseil challenge.

Judith Cole, from RNIB said: We are thrilled to have so many people from the health profession taking part this year, we have doctors, nurses and clerical staff plus a lot of carers from nursing or residential homes.?
