IT was a ?knockout? time at Bridestowe when the Methodist Church organised a day of fun. The ?It?s a Knockout? event took place at New Standon Farm, by permission of Mr and Mrs Dean James. It? s a Knockout was held in the afternoon followed by a barbecue and barn dance in the evening. There were seven teams competing in the knockout: LA Galaxy, the Losers, the Whites, Ross?s Rebels, the Hopefuls, the Cadets and the No Hopers. The games were six persons skiing, egg throwing, slow bicycle race, filling a water pipe with holes after crawling through a gooey tunnel, a slippery pole over a pond of water, pond dipping ? finding objects in the bottom of a pool? , archery and all these were included in the final game, plus tossing the sheaf and knocking down the barrels. The winners were . . . the Losers! They are Pictured here, left to right, Joe Wharton, Toby Warren, Steve Drayner, Dave, Lisa Warren and Sam Wharton. An individual archery competition supervised by Andy Vallance was held and the adult winner was Neal McMullin. The under 12s winner was Edward Coward. Jonathan Whiteley and helpers were kept busy until late, cooking burgers and hot dogs. More than 60 enjoyed the dance in the barn to the Walter Shortage and His Hosepipe Band. Participants enjoyed the day so much that there were several who suggested it should be an annual event.
