THE keys to Tavistock's brand new library were officially handed over in a ceremony at the Plymouth Road building on Tuesday.

Tavistock's county councillor Roy Cook, who has spearheaded the drive to obtain the £750,000 facility, said it was a 'pleasure and relief' to see the building near completion.

Cllr Cook said: 'At long last I can see the light at the end of the library tunnel. It has been a long, hard struggle, however, success has been achieved, all due to the professionalism and determination to succeed by Devon and Cornwall Housing Association and the officers at both the borough and county council.'

The new facility includes offices for West Devon Homes and Capita, plus apartments and a new footbridge link across Tavistock Canal.

The library is now being fitted out and is due to open in June.
