WHAT a load of irrelevant rubbish! (Moor body hits at wind farm?, Times, December 16). That is, the comments of a certain Rachel Ruffle (what on earth is a managing engineer?) of RES concerning the proposed Den Brook wind turbines. This person says the government Chief Scientist Sir somebody or other, has said by 2050 temperatures will rise, melt the Greenland ice sheet and put London under water. Firstly, who the hell cares if London goes underwater? This government and the old boys club live in London and they are all a load of wet fish anyway. Secondly, sea levels around London are rising because of rebound from the ice age. Not necessarily from seawater expansion or melt. Thirdly there is no scientific foundation for her comments. Records have not been conducted long enough to establish that there will be this temperature rise, when it will happen or that it will melt this ice sheet. There is no direct proof of human-induced global warming. The earth has always gone through climate change. And fourthly, the mean annual maximum sustained wind speed for Atlantic basin cyclones from 1945 to 2004 has dropped substantially. So why build these soppy windmills here? Might as well build them in London, let them look at them. All the wind from government red tape, ID cards and the hunting bill will make the blades turn. Phil Allen Lower Puddicombe Drewsteignton
