AN 8-3 win over Budleigh Salterton secured promotion for Okehampton and District Mens? A Tennis Team. This is the second season in succession that the team ? comprising Dan Arnot, Stuart Jarvis, Paul Love and Chris Searle ? has gained promotion. The team will play in Division 4 of the Exeter and District League next year. This is the second success gained by Okehampton Tennis Club in recent weeks, with the mens? triumph coming on the back of the Ladies A Team heading their division for the second season running. Okehampton?s re-emerging strength in competitive tennis has clearly been helped by the improved playing facilities in Simmons Park, as provided and supported by the county, district and town councils. The club will be looking to further strengthen its Mens and Ladies teams for 2007 league tennis, and is always keen to welcome new players to the club. The club will be closing its summer season with a doubles competition in Simmons Park on Sunday (September 17) that is open to non-members aged 16 and over. The club will draw pairings for a men?s and mixed doubles competition on the day, and all players will be guaranteed at least three short sets in the men?s, and five in the mixed. Play will commence at 1pm, and entry fees are £3 for one format (men?s or mixed) and £5 for both. If you would like to register to play, please contact Dan Arnot on 07890 186553 or Jackie Jarvis on 01837 52482. Weather permitting, food and refreshments will be served after play.
