THE Plymouth and District Tennis League held their annual awards evening at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel and Yelverton Tennis Club had a very successful evening.

They received the men's division five runners up trophy, the ladies division four winners trophy and also the ladies division five runners up trophy.

Phil Gasche the men's captain collected their prize after losing out for first place to Ivybridge E. Wendy Sharland and Ann Short collected their trophy for Yelverton B team by beating St Mellion in a competitive league. After being relegated the previous year, they were delighted to regain their division three status.

Jean Humphries and Lynne MacFarlane collected their division five runners up plaque after being pipped by Devonshire C. Yelverton also collected individual awards – Lynne MacFarlane and Carol Llewellyn for outstanding performances in division five and Angie Lynch in division two for the A team.

The club thank Dave Willams for his dedicated hard work as league secretary for many years and also to Steve Hitch, the long serving Ivybridge chairman, who is retiring.

Yelverton also have a mixed doubles Autumn tournament in full swing at the moment and 16 couples are battling to try and reach the finals.
