THE indoor tennis season started this year at the East Cornwall Tennis Centre?s dome with an open day/sift day on Saturday.

New and existing players played for free while coaches allocated them to courses most suited to their levels of ability and commitment.

The tennis centre is based at Callington Community College, which was voted the Lawn Tennis Association?s Tennis School of the Year 2003. It caters for everyone from pre-school and school students to adults, whether they enjoy social or competitive tennis.

All those interested in applying for coaching or who would like to consider membership or playing for the club teams can also register by telephoning 01579 386122.

The centre welcomes non-members to join its subsidised courses, while offering generous additional discounts to members and young, committed players chosen for futures squads and scholarships. The idea is that tennis should no longer be seen as an exclusive or elitist sport, but as a route to fun and fitness for the whole community in the region.
