THE temporary Jobcentre in Okehampton has been put on hold until further notice.

The three-month trial period at the Okement Centre, due to start this month, has been unable to begin operations, due to a delay with broadband connections.

Manager of the Okement Centre, Lindsay Svenson, urged people not to panic.

She said: 'I've got no reason to think the Jobcentre won't be here and I have been told the phone lines need to be fitted, so it's just a case of when.

'The Ockment Centre want to let people know there has been a delay on the expected start of service.

'As far as I know it's due to the broadband fitting and as soon as we know something, we will let everyone know.'

The temporary Jobcentre is expected to have three members of staff available to help get customers back into work. It is planned to be open for businesses on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Customers will still have to go to Exeter or Plymouth for an advisory interview.

Details on when the service will start at the centre will be announced at a later date.
