CHRIS and Lisa Brewer from Trethorne Golf Club both returned from St Mellion Golf Club successful after the Daily Telegraph qualifier held there recently.
Duchy College student Chris, a 13-handicapper and junior captain at Trethorne, scored an impressive four over gross 72 on the old course coming second on count back in the gross championship, beating his handicap by nine shots. He was a clear winner of the nett competition.
His handicap has now been cut to 10 as a result.
This has built on his success from the end of last year when he came second in the 'Daily Mail SAAB' Southern England finals at Bridgwater.
Chris has been playing golf for almost seven years and is a regular player for the men's team at his club. He is currently studying for a National Diploma in Golf Studies and hopes to become either a teaching golf professional or club manager in the future.
Tavistock College student Lisa, 15, a 29 handicapper, was successful in winning the Daily Telegraph Junior Girls Open at St Mellion.
Lisa, who has reduced her handicap from 40 in the last three months, scored gross 91 to win by 5 shots from a 17 handicapper.
She also recorded one of the best nett scores with a nine under par 62.
Lisa, as a result, had her handicap cut by a further four shots to 25. She is currently a member of the Cornwall Girls' County Squad and travels to Monmouth this month to compete in the South Western Divisional Junior and Intermediate Girls championship and has qualified for the area finals of the golf foundation Weetabix Championships.
She hopes to represent the Cornwall County side at the Inter County Championships to be held at Yeovil Golf Club in August.
Lisa plays for both the ladies and juniors league team at Trethorne and is unbeaten this year in the matches. Her junior matches are often against boys and she takes great delight in defeating them.
