Okehampton Columbines 4

Totnes 1

THIS league game was the first match for the Columbines this year.

Totnes looked the stronger side in the first ten minutes, but when their right back fired a free-hit at point-blank range at Sue Stanbury, causing her to have to go off with a serious ankle injury Okehampton stepped up a gear.

Most of the action was in the middle of the pitch where Columbine Elaine Morgan dominated; so much so that the Okehampton rearguard was largely untroubled.

Okehampton went in 1-0 up at half-time from a corner to Jane Jones. She intelligently slipped the ball to Kelly Cooper who set up Viv Weatherington to score.

The second half was all Okehampton with Jo Moppett and Kelly Cooper running the show up front.

Alex Collins put the Columbines 2-0 ahead with a good strike from a short corner, and Jo and Kelly each scored with two well-taken goals.

Totnes pulled back a consolation goal in the dying minutes from a short corner, which Sharon Stephens in goal could do nothing about.

Columbines were delighted to take three league points from the match.

This week Okehampton away to Tavistock in the league.
