YOUNGSTERS in the Fourth Tavistock Brownies hosted a party recently to say a fond farewell to their long-serving Brown Owl.
The brownies organised the send-off for Kate Harding, who took over as the unit's Brown Owl 40 years ago. They wrote and sang a song in her honour and presented her with gifts followed by tea and a special cake.
Janet Piper, joint division commissioner, said: 'It would be interesting to calculate how many hours of voluntary service Kate has given to the unit over the years, time spent planning, fundraising, organising pack holidays etc.
'Although Kate has retired as Brown Owl, I am delighted she is happy to share her wealth of experience and continues to offer support to the current leader team and remains busy as leader to the fourth Tavistock Guides and as indoor residential advisor for Tavy division.'
