A TAVISTOCK taxi firm is taking part in a national anti drink-drive television campaign this Christmas.
Tavistock Radio Taxis is one of more than 1,000 cab firms in the UK lending their services to the Government?s hard hitting adverts, to be screened over the festive period.
The £2-million campaign poses the question: ?What will it take to stop you drink-driving?? It then offers as a solution the new National Taxi Freephone number, 0800 666 666.
All the companies involved are connected to the service so that anyone dialling the number will instantly be put through to their nearest participating office.
So people in the Tavistock area who need a taxi can dial the easy-to-remember number and their call will be answered by Tavistock Radio Taxis.
Managing Director of the firm, Bob Nowell said: ?While most local people already know our normal phone number, they can now save money by calling the new 0800 number. It?s free to call and very easy to remember.?
More than two million people are expected to use the Taxi Freephone service this Christmas, and it is hoped it will help curb the 15 per cent increase in drink-driving convictions on Britain?s roads in the last year.
In addition, Crimestoppers is offering a £500 reward for information leading to a drink-drive conviction.
