SOUTH Tawton Primary School sports teams have had a successful season with both of the netball teams winning their respective divisions of the Primary School Netball League.
For the first time ever, the 'A' football team found themselves at the top of the table with Okehampton Primary School as joint winners of their league.
The league has been running for many years with matches being played (both home and away) against North Tawton, Chagford, Okehampton and Hatherleigh. The 'A' Netball team from South Tawton started the season well and continued this form throughout with excellent shooting from all of the girls and very pleasing team work. They were unbeaten and finished top of the table with 24 points.
The 'B' team had a large squad with 16 girls taking their turn to play over the season. With an excellent team spirit the girls fought hard and they only lost one match against North Tawton giving them a total of 22 points and top spot in their league.
The 'A' football team also put in some fine performances in some very closely fought matches.
After winning six of their games and drawing one, they were disappointed to lose their last match of the season against Okehampton and thought they had lost their chance of winning the league.
However, Okehampton also had some close matches and they too finished on 21 points and so the league title was shared.
South Tawton 'B' footballers also had a good season winning three matches, drawing two and losing three in a very closely contested division.
In the last match of the season Chagford beat Okehampton which put South Tawton into third place, Chagford into second and Okehampton into First place.
Mrs Herod Taylor from South Tawton School said: 'It has been wonderful to see so many youngsters from the local primary schools taking part in the league and playing with such enthusiasm, enjoyment and team spirit.'
