VOLUNTEERS are needed to help support people living with hearing loss, deafness and tinnitus in Tavistock.

National charity Action on Hearing Loss is calling out for volunteers to help run a regular information stand at Tavistock Library.

People are also needed to give talks to local community groups, social clubs and places of worship to encourage Devon residents to have their hearing checked and inform them about life-changing equipment and services.

Jason Sculthorpe, project co-ordinator for Action on Hearing Loss in the South West, said: ‘We’re looking for enthusiastic people of any age around Tavistock to join our volunteer team and use their time, skills and talent to raise awareness of the support that’s available to people with deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss. The volunteers will not only have the chance to make a positive impact on the everyday lives of people in their communities, but can also make new friends and enjoy fun and rewarding experiences.

‘Our volunteers bring energy and commitment to Action on Hearing Loss and volunteering can make a positive difference in their lives, helping them to gain valuable experience. Volunteers can also encourage local organisations and businesses to improve deaf awareness and the accessibility of their services for people with a hearing loss.’

Information stands in Tavistock take place every third Thursday from 10am to 1pm at Tavistock Library on Plymouth Road.
