A TAVISTOCK vicar is preparing to brave the shave to raise money for a cancer charity.

The Rev Phil Griffin, 33, said he wanted to do something to help Macmillan Cancer Support after seeing the work the charity does to support cancer patients and their families.

He said: ‘I have been impressed by the work of Macmillan for many years and have thought about doing something for them for a long time.

‘I have had pretty much the same haircut for 15 years, so when I heard about the chance to have a change of hairstyle and do something great for a fantastic charity, I couldn’t resist signing up.

‘I am a bit nervous about getting it done, especially whether my two daughters will recognise me.’

He is hoping to raise £150 from the shave.

Mr Griffin, who is a minister at Tavistock, Princetown, Bere Alston and Yelverton Rock Methodist churches, said his family were a little unsure about what he would look like but were supportive of the fundraiser.

He added: ‘All the money will go to a great cause that really makes a massive difference to people.’

Mr Griffin will go under the clippers on Saturday (September 17). To support him visit www.bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/philip-griffin/
