SEVERAL organisations in Tavistock have been given a financial boost from Tavistock Town Council grant funding — totalling almost £12,000.

Tavistock Town Council was pleased to be able to award grants of varying amounts to ten different groups in the town at a presentation recently, from £175 to £4,000.

The largest grant of £4,000 was awarded to Torridge, North, Mid and West Devon Citizens Advice to contribute towards the ongoing provision of the Citizens Advice service in Tavistock.

Tavistock Heritage Trust received £3,000 to help pay towards the cost of retail display units, volunteer training and an electron point of sale system.

A grant of £175 was given to the Junior Life Skills organisation to help towards the venue cost so that the Junior Life Skills event can take place this year and Tavistock Carers’ Support Group received £450 towards the cost of a spa day or an outing to a garden centre for carers.

Tavistock Rugby Club was given £300 towards the cost of galvanised posts for gates to hang at the rugby club; the Tavy Division of Girlguiding received £500 to help purchase guiding handbooks for use by the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in Tavistock; Tavistock Scrapstore was awarded £900 towards the cost of signage, workshop and other materials; Tavistock Goose Fair and Cattle Market Open Day received £1,500 to pay towards the cost of facilitating the Goose Fair open day cattle market and associated costs; the Son Rise Specials Trust was given £625 to help pay towards the cost of away trips during the 2019 season and the Butcher Park Allotment Association received a grant of £500 towards the cost of providing welfare facilities at the allotment site, particularly for those with wheelchairs.

The grants were presented by the mayor of Tavistock at the time, Cllr Paul Ward, before the end of his mayoral term, which ended last week.
