A TEENAGER from Tavistock had to be escorted off the England football team’s training pitch on Wednesday afternoon (May 18) after running on to the field.
Harry Peak was pictured dressed in a Three Lions training kit when he invaded the pitch at the Football Association’s national football centre at St George’s Park in Staffordshire.
Peak, aged 18, had been invited to watch yesterday’s training session with his father, a Club Wembley member.
After running on to the pitch, he was seen kicking a ball before England’s team physiotherapist Gary Lewin ushered him away from the players. It was the first time the team had gathered to train since the final Euro 2016 squad was revealed.
In a statement the Football Association said: ’The person in question was the son of an invited Club Wembley member who had to follow a formal registration process on entry to St George’s Park.
’The FA were aware of his identity and we will take the appropriate action in due course as a result of this unacceptable behaviour.’
In a statement posted on his Twitter page, Peak said: ’I would like to apologise to the England football team, the FA, Club Wembley and anyone else affected by my actions on Wednesday afternoon at St George’s Park. My intentions were not to embarrass anyone or cause concern. Upon entering the pitch I identified myself to England players so they knew I wasn’t a threat, and as soon as I was asked to leave I did so.’
Peak had been presenting a weekend youth radio show on radio station Pirate FM’s sister station Pirate 2. The station has suspended him since his pitch invasion.
Pirate FM’s managing director, Mark Peters, said: ’Harry is a maverick presenter - but it would appear he has taken things too far. We were exploring other avenues following the broadcast of the last edition of the Youth Show on DAB station Pirate 2.
’But we are suspending him while we investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident at the England training ground.’
