Tamar League A
Lewdown v Tavistock
TAVISTOCK's opening pair of Dhanjal and Piper set about the bowling with some aggressive robust batting, putting away the numerous bad balls on a bowler friendly, bouncy wicket.
With the assistance of extras the pair raced the score along with the 50 being reached in the seventh over and the 100 after a mere 16 overs.
A massive score looked on the cards for Tavistock but the introduction of Metherell and Webber to the Lewdown bowling attack soon paid dividends. In the space of five overs, Tavistock were reduced from 105-0, to 121-5, with the key wickets of Dhanjal and Piper, two of the victims. This however was not before Piper (60) had managed to secure his second half-century in consecutive games, with another superb knock.
Lewdown now with their spirits up chipped away at the Tavistock batting with regular wickets, and taking several good catches in the process. Webber was getting good 'turn' out of the wicket and was good value for his three-wicket haul. Supporting bowler Spry took a 'brace' for only 14 runs.
With plenty of overs left the Tavistock combination of Lee and Bamford wrested the initiative back from Lewdown again with a sensible batting display. Lee thumped a superb 41 not out and Bamford a commendable 18 to take their side to 199-9.
Tavistock bowlers Parisio and Folley pitched up accurate deliveries and the pair soon had Lewdown in trouble with danger man Somersby falling to Parisio caught by Sandhu without score.
Further wickets fell at regular intervals leaving Lewdown well behind the run rate with a mountain to climb. Parisio and Folley completed their economical spells of bowling with three wickets to Folley and two to Parisio.
A middle order rally of 26 from Medland and 14 from Metherell kept Lewdown's score ticking over until Medland fell to young colt Ben Crowl in his first senior League appearance for Tavistock. Crowl continued to impress with the further wicket of Webber to add to his impressive debut for the seniors.
Further wickets fell to Hutchins and Lethbridge but a late stand from the Lewdown tail of Cowley and Sam Westlake continued to frustrated Tavistock for several overs until Parisio stepped up with his last over to remove the gritty Westlake. This left Cowley stranded, unbeaten on 32, with Lewdown all out for 149.
This was a good team effort from Tavistock, special mention goes to Ken Coe as last minute stand in keeper for Tavistock who did a good job on a difficult wicket, and Jesse Sandhu with two nice catches in the field.
