STUDENT Luis Inacio from Tavistock has received a prestigious award for his efforts during a leading trade association’s annual convention.
Luis, who attends City College Plymouth, received the outstanding contribution award for his efforts during UKinbound’s annual convention, which welcomed over 250 members from across the UK tourism industry for a programme of events over the course of three days.
UKinbound, one of the UK’s leading trade associations, gave the award to Luis during the college’s student of the term awards evening held on Thursday, March 23.
The 18-year-old from Tavistock is studying a BTEC extended diploma in travel and tourism. He was presented with the prize for having gone above and beyond to make attendees feel welcome at the convention, which took place in February 2017 at the Holiday Inn Plymouth.
As part of the award Luis also won a trip to London, including an overnight stay at a GLH Hotel, a boat trip across the River Thames with Thames Jet, a visit to the IceBar London and return train tickets from Plymouth with Great Western Railway.
City College Plymouth’s employ-ability and enterprise manager, Mike Jones, said: ‘Luis is one of those students that is keen to try anything. He has an enthusiasm to gain new experiences even if it means stepping out of his comfort zone.
‘UKinbound’s annual convention really highlighted Luis’ potential as a future star within the tourism sector. His willingness to dive in and his natural ability to deliver excellent customer service were clear for all to see, positive feedback was received from both delegates and the organiser.
‘Luis is a credit to himself and the college. We are sure he will have a bright future in this sector.’
UKinbound’s chief executive officer, Deirdre Wells, commented: ‘We really appreciated the support of the students from City College Plymouth during the convention.
‘They played such a key role in ensuring all our guests received a warm welcome to Plymouth and we are delighted to be able to award Luis for his exceptional effort.’
