LAST Friday a Wear A Hat Day was organised in Tavistock Pannier Market to raise awareness of brain tumours.
The annual fundraising event encourages people to wear fun and kooky hats to raise money for Brian Tumour Research UK.
The event was organised by Dotty King at her Dot Teas cake and bakes stall where there was a cake square raffle won by Richard The Watchman of Tavistock.
Cupcakes were available for a donation and there were charity boxes for donations.
JoJo Hats of Devon raised £72 by providing hats for people to pose in and photographs were taken all day. Tavistock Country Market also raised £23.39.
Thanks were expressed to Dotty and the Tavistock College students who raised £15 by having a sponsored homework session, the Tavistock Pannier Market traders who wore hats, everyone that came to the stall and bought cakes and /or donated money and to Tavistock Mayor Cllr Mandy Ewing for giving up her time and totally throwing herself into the event.
Bertie (Dotty’s Austin 35) also made an appearance.
The total raised was £497.40 and Dotty quickly topped this up to bank £500.
Dotty, her husband and friends are continuing to raise money for brain tumour research by running the Nashville Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon later in the month and can be sponsored at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/4BritsinNashville4Holly
