Okehampton 1
EMOTIONS were running high for this, a crucial game for Okehampton Hockey Club, battling in the relegation zone.
Tavistock maintained their domineering form with a powerful display of fast, flowing hockey. Following a quick goal in the opening minutes by Barratt, Okehampton levelled from a short corner, after some slack defending.
With the Tavistock midfield controlling the game and the awesome strike partnership of Way and Heard, the match was not as closely fought as expected. With speed being the essence of Tavistock?s attack, the visitors were forever on the back foot.
Having notched 18 goals in the previous two games, Tavistock were six up at half-time, three of which were put away by Heard. Okehampton tightened their defence in the second half but the tantalising runs of Way and Barratt continued to create havoc.
All aspects of Tavistock?s game oozed quality. With a solid back line marshalled by Lethbridge and Bradley, and the barrelling runs of Hess and Bellard, good distribution by Tom Honey, Boot-Hanford, Honey senior and Edwards, options were limitless.
With Okehampton playing for pride, Tavistock put the game out of reach with a goal chipped over the keeper from an acute angle by Heard.
This was another superb all round performance by Tavistock, concluding the league in fourth position but only three points away from second.
Tavistock are always looking for new talent to increase the two squads, Any players wanting to play for this club please ring Phil Honey 01822 610032 or Phil Edwards 01822 616783 for information.
