Tavistock A 5 PGSOB C 1 THE first game of the new hockey season started with an emphatic win over newly promoted PGs. Tavistock were missing two key players, but benefited from the newly joined Burrows and Tom Ludwig stepping up from last season?s third team. Tavistock mounted pressure from the start and capitalised from sloppy play from the visitors, when the fired up Burrows smashed his first for the club into the back of the net. This was soon followed by a beautiful strike into the top of the net by Barrat, after a slick run and passing move from the midfield to the forwards. Tavistock were in full flow and piling on the pressure. Edwards hammered a short corner into the net after the PGs mobile goalkeeper ran out of spectacular saves. Another swift move through Burrows to Honey enabled the captain to draw the defender and move the ball to the inside where another new player for the season, Luke Daniels, slotted in his first of the season. Tavistock became over confident and started pushing too far up the pitch in the hunt for more goals and a breakaway goal by the visitors brought reality back. With Aveyard bossing the midfield the structure and slick passing was creating plenty of chances, but with the second half only supplying one more goal there was some dissatisfaction in the final score. Tavistock were dominant, new players showed great promise but the opposition were not the challenge that will await in other games. Tavistock can still support new players and with three men?s sides, this growing club looks forward to another solid season. Men?s training is at Kelly College on Thursdays at 7pm. This week the 2nd XI are away to Bude A.
