A pedestrian injured after an emergency at a Tavistock petrol station has thanked everyone who came to her aid.
Anna Flashman hit her head and injured her ankle and foot when she tried to get out of the way of a vehicle at Morrisons petrol station in Tavistock on Saturday morning, September 26.
She was one of two casualties taken to hospital after the incident in which a car apparently lost control and collided with two cars. Two other people were treated at the scene.
The petrol station was closed for several hours while fire crews made the cars safe from causing a fire hazard to the pumps and fuel storage tanks.
Anna, from London, had been visiting the area to see family.
She’d just come out of Greggs cafe and saw a car collide with the first car.
“The driver kept on going and was directly in front of me. I tried to get out of the way but my foot got hit and I fell,” she said.
“I was very lucky that a naval medic was there. He was absolutely fantastic. He raised my head and luckily there were a couple of nurses nearby. Someone else got cushions to prop up my head and they kept talking to me.
“Obviously I was quite lucky I hadn’t broken anything. It was very frightening. I really thought I had broken my leg because the pain was absolutely unbelievable. I felt a huge lump on my head. I felt I might lose consciousness.
“I was extremely grateful to the people that helped me. They phoned my dad and kept talking to me.”
She was on Monday recuperating in a hotel before hoping to return to London with her partner.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called at 9.40am to a road traffic accident involving two vehicles and a pedestrian on the petrol station forecourt. We sent two appliances and there were four casualties in total. Two were released by fire crews using hydraulic rescue equipment from a vehicle and two were transported to hospital.”
