Tavistock Community Fridge is open today with lots of free fruit and vegetables for people in the community who need it.

All the contents have to be gone by 5pm today. The fridge, situated in the lobby of Tavistock Library, will be open again on Tuesday, January 4 and normal service will resume on Thursday, January 6.

The community fridge, which is a Libraries Unlimited initiative and funded by Live West Housing Association, is run by a group of volunteers who give up their time to drive to supermarkets and shops to collect food that would otherwise be thrown away but is in perfectly good condition.

The volunteers also check the fridge several times a day and carry out regular cleaning etc.

The main goal of the fridge is to reduce unnecessary food waste and help the community as much as possible.

Please wear face masks and sanitise your hands before you touch anything. Please take no more than five items.

Normal opening hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm.
