THE recent Burrator Horseshoe saw 18 runners from Tavistock Athletic Club on the start line for the gruelling 7-mile multi terrain run up Sheepstor, Gutter Tor and back to Meavy to the finish.

Three TAC members took the first four places. Last year, Tom Gill competed as a junior member. This year, aged 18, he ran an excellent race, to win the event in 42 minutes, 18seconds. Martin Exley was next TAC to finish in third place, with George Speak, aged 16, coming fourth.

James Best and Claire Fraser, both 14-year-olds were competing for the first time. James came home second junior and Claire had a fine run, finishing second female and first junior female.

Other notable performances were put in by Andy Houghton, who won the M60 category, and by Andrew Alcock, TAC's 'Athlete of the Month,' who gained over 17 minutes on his 2009 time.

The previous weekend, Charlie Lloyd had been TAC's sole representative at the Plym Valley Challenge, described as a 'multi-terrain, 10-ish mile race through Plymbridge woods.' Charlie finished in eighth place, in 1hour, 3 minutes, 47 seconds.

Steve Groombridge was also a lone TAC at Cubert 5, a five-mile, two lap, undulating road race near Newquay. Steve won his M55 age category in 29mins, 31secs.

At the Albaston Relay, TAC's team of five, comprising Pete Bazley, Rob Kirby, Martin Exley, John Marshall and Andy Houghton won the event overall.

Finally, the Ruby Run, attracted eight club members. The run is a half-marathon between Holsworthy and Hatherleigh with the start alternating between the two towns. This year's race started in Holsworthy in warm conditions.

Jo Meek and Pete Bazley excelled, Jo being first lady to finish, in 1hr 20mins 10secs, and Pete winning his age category in 1.40.29.
