Truro C 1
Tavistock A 3
TAVISTOCK had been improving their play over recent weeks after a rather troublesome start to the season. Travelling to Truro to play the team sitting with them at the foot of the table, Tavistock knew that this was a must win game.
From the start the visitors piled pressure onto the home side and playing possession hockey with some sublime one touch passing. Tavistock tore into the Truro defence and after some period of pressure the patience was rewarded by a deft touch by Josh Reynolds.
Playing confidently and moving the ball around the pitch via the rapid legs of Adam Holland, Tom Unwin scored his first at the near post from a drive into the D by Honey.
Tavistock were really playing some good hockey and with solid defence by Bellard, Hanson and Costello, were building from deep. Captain Anning was orchestrating the midfield along with Wheatley and Tavistock were dominating.
It was at this point that a foul by the home side left Wheatley with a nasty head wound and a speedy visit to the hospital.
Tom Bury replaced him in the middle of the pitch and imposed himself immediately. With calm distribution, Tom Unwin got his second after some more slick passing.
Tavistock sat back after the break and missed out on the opportunity of increasing the score, which allowed Truro some more freedom and a short corner strike that gave them a ray of hope.
Osborne was covering well in goal and was determined that there would be no other scores.
Tavistock realised that the game was theirs and then put pressure back on to Truro and began to control the game again.
It was in the final seconds when the best goal was scored following a flowing move across the pitch and an accurate slap into the net by Unwin. Disappointment was high when the distant umpire announced that he was blowing for time before the ball crossed the line, but a win is a win and the performance for Tavistock was much improved again.
